Milans Volkovs

Record: 11–3–2

Milans Volkovs is a 25-year-old professional boxer from Riga who has quickly risen to become Latvia’s top-ranked cruiserweight boxer. Volkovs fights in the 90–91 kg range (cruiserweight) and sports an orthodox stance. He carries the fearsome ring alias “Big Bad Wolf,” a playful nod to his surname (Volkov means “wolf” in Russian).

During his amateur career, he was a multiple-time youth champion in amateur boxing. He represented Latvia at European and World championships, and participated in several European tournaments as a member of the Latvian National Boxing Team. Volkovs turned pro in 2018 and has compiled an 11–3–2 record with 6 knockouts to date.

Among his notable achievements, Milans scored a headline-grabbing upset in October 2024: he defeated undefeated British prospect Tommy Fletcher in London, handing Fletcher his first professional loss. This victory, achieved on away turf at the famed York Hall, stunned UK boxing fans and showcased Volkovs’ ability to rise to big occasions.

Earlier in 2024, Volkovs had tested himself against another unbeaten fighter, Italy’s Oronzo Birardi, in a valiant effort (though he narrowly lost that bout on points). Both Fletcher and Birardi are boxers signed by Frank Warren, and Volkovs faced them in the Queensbury and TNT Sports Boxing promotions.

Domestically, he’s been a staple of the LNK Boxing promotions, often featured on major cards in Riga. By 2025, BoxRec ranks Milans Volkovs as the #1 cruiserweight in Latvia and among the top 8% of cruisers worldwide.

At 18, Milans made the bold decision to go pro rather than pursue a long amateur career. With support from his manager Vadim Milov, he debuted in 2018, winning his first fight by knockout.

In recent years, Volkovs has begun to make waves internationally. His fights in the UK — especially the victory over an 8–0 British fighter — earned him praise in the European boxing community. Eurosport and other outlets reported on that “bloody war” where he toppled Fletcher, noting it as a highlight on the Gilley-McGann card in London.

That win may open doors for Volkovs: UK promoters have expressed interest in bringing him back for more bouts, recognizing that he’s a durable and game opponent. While he hasn’t fought for a European or world title yet, these international forays are steadily building his reputation. Within the Baltic region, he’s arguably the most talked-about boxer of his division, often mentioned alongside Lithuania’s and Estonia’s best. As he continues to rack up wins, Milans “Big Bad Wolf” Volkovs could soon find himself fighting for a European championship, carrying Latvian boxing to new heights.
