“BAZARA 0 Fight Club IV” is closing its fight announcements with a matchup that has, technically, been eight years in the making: Edgars “The Bearslayer” Skrīvers vs. Jesus “The Beast” Paucarcaja Lopez!
These two already have plenty of history together. On September 27th of 2018, both men fought on Karate Combat: One World, held 102 floors above New York City inside the One World Trade Center. Paucarcaja faced Pedro Roman Roig; a couple of fights later, Skrīvers met Teeik Silva. It was the inaugural Karate Combat season, and neither man could have known how much of his career would eventually become tied to the promotion. Skrivers won that night by unanimous decision, while Paucarcaja lost his debut.
Five years later, their paths crossed again without touching. At Karate Combat 40 in June of 2023, Skrivers defeated the multiple-time GLORY and Bellator kickboxing champion Gabriel Varga in a number-one-contender fight, while Paucarcaja beat Ilies Mardhi by TKO on the same card.

Edgars Skrīvers began Shotokan karate at six and ultimately became the first champion in Karate Combat history.
In 2019, he took the lightweight Golden Belt in the promotion’s first-ever championship fight against Luiz “Pitbull” Rocha and later defended it against Myrza-Bek Tebuev and Bruno Assis before Rocha took the title from him in their 2022 rematch.
Skrivers continued hanging around the absolute top end of Karate Combat even after losing the belt. At KC40, he won by split decision to earn another lightweight title shot, and by the post-KC50 rankings in late 2024, he was still the number-one lightweight contender and ranked fifth on Karate Combat’s men’s pound-for-pound list. Sitting two places behind him at number seven? Jesus “The Beast” Paucarcaja Lopez!
Eventually Skrīvers started moving back into the wider combat-sports world. After seven years away from professional MMA, he returned in 2025 at KOK 125 in Riga and won against the former Latvian champion Roberts Skujiņš. Then, a completely different accomplishment: at the 2025 WAKO Senior World Championships in Abu Dhabi, he took gold in the men’s -63.5 kg Full Contact division.
Jesus Paucarcaja, the 39-year-old Peruvian began martial arts at five and is a fourth-degree karate black belt and first-degree kickboxing black belt. He has trained through Club Kikatsu Karate and Sarria Kickboxing Center in Lima with Miguel Sarria, Víctor de la Rosa, Augusto Paucarcaja and Arturo Delgado. Outside his own fighting, Paucarcaja is the head coach of the Peruvian national kickboxing team.
At the 2009 Pan American Karate Championships in Curaçao, Paucarcaja won silver for Peru in the men’s -67 kg kumite division, helping Peru finish second in the overall medal table behind the United States. In 2010 he added bronze at the South American Games in Medellín in the same division. In 2025, the Peruvian Sports Institute formally granted Paucarcaja the designation of former High-Level Qualified Athlete specifically on the basis of his Medellín bronze medal. Peruvian Olympic Committee also credits Paucarcaja with twelve years as a member of Peru’s national karate team and thirteen national championships. His career eventually took him from traditional tournament karate into the harder full-contact format of Karate Combat.
