Danik Vesnenok — Fighter, Founder, Submission Ace

Danik Vesnenok is the visionary behind “BAZARA 0” and a legend in the Latvian MMA scene. Vesnenok boasts a decorated fighting career with double-digit wins and only two losses to date (12–2). An overwhelming 80% of his victories have come via submission.

He made his name on the Baltic MMA circuit — racking up wins in events like “King of Kings” and “LNK Fight Night” — before gaining broader recognition in a viral bare-knuckle bout in the “TOP DOG” promotion in Russia.

As the founder of “BAZARA 0 Fight Club”, Vesnenok has channelled his passion for combat sports into creating a unique platform for fighters. He deliberately sat out of competition during “BAZARA 0”’s inaugural event to focus on organizing the show:

“I don’t plan to [fight]… I used to be a professional athlete, but now if I had to go in, I’d like to properly prepare,” Vesnenok said at the time.

BAZARA 0 FIGHT CLUB #1 AFTERMOVIE

After orchestrating a successful debut event last year, the 27-year-old is now set to step back into the cage himself — and we caught him for an interview.

Before “BAZARA 0 Fight Club”, you mentioned in our interview that you didn’t want to fight because training alone is a full-time job. What inspired you to step back into the cage?

I wouldn’t call this a comeback event. I’m just going in there to fight. The reason I decided to do it is because there was supposed to be a different main event. I won’t name names, but suddenly, numbers were being thrown around that just didn’t make sense in our scene. These guys are only known here because we put them out there… That didn’t sit right with me because we had agreed on something completely different before.

So I thought — f**k it. I’ll fight myself. I’ll put on a show for my friends, fans, and the people who support me. I’ll back my own brand and my own business. Since the first event, we’ve gained experience, and built a stronger team — this is a whole different level now.

A lot of people want to see you back in the cage. Why do you think that is?

Because when I fight, I bring emotions that others might not. That kind of adrenaline, that kind of dopamine — you don’t get that from just any fight show. With my fighting style and attitude, I can make people feel something when they watch. Every fight is just as serious and important as the last. It’s simply the urge to get in there, let it all out, and in doing so, positively charge the crowd.

Does it feel good to be back in training and to experience that discipline again?

Yeah. One of the main reasons I decided to do this was for my health. Sure, physically, I might be a wreck after the fight… [laughs] But mentally, it does a lot of good. Stepping into the ring, into the cage — it’s mentally powerful, it’s healthy for me.

I’m training with, in my opinion, Latvia’s best amateur boxing coach, Iļja Žilinskis, at the “Olympic Hopes” boxing club. He has the most talented, strongest young boxers locally. I train as much as my body can handle. Right now, I’m focusing more on recovery rather than just pushing my limits. It’s easy to train hard — it’s harder to not break down in the process. I don’t train as much as I used to, but enough to feel as strong and sharp as possible.

Why this opponent specifically?

I didn’t choose him. I originally wanted a Lithuanian opponent, but one got injured, another backed out… Roberts Skujiņš was already on our list — he wanted to take part in the fight show. And from what I understand, he really wanted this fight, specifically against me.

Funny enough, we had a pretty ugly conflict before, something we never really settled. We shook hands, and that was it. So this is the best way to truly resolve it — with a fair fight.

Roberts Skujiņš — Veteran Champion Back for One More Fight

Facing Vesnenok on the opposite side of the cage will be Roberts Skujiņš, one of Latvia’s most seasoned MMA fighters. Now 36 years old, Skujiņš brings a 12-year career’s worth of experience and grit into this matchup. He is a former Latvian MMA lightweight champion who honed his craft both at home and abroad — including a stint training and competing in England earlier in his career.

Known for his “old school” MMA approach, Skujiņš has never been one to shy away from a brawl. In fact, he rarely leaves fights in the hands of the judges: none of his 13 career losses have come by decision. With 6 wins (half by submission) under his belt and numerous wars on his record, Skujiņš has proven dangerous wherever the fight goes.

After years of battles, Skujiņš had originally intended for a 2019 bout to be his swan song, and later even announced a retirement fight in late 2024. In November, he returned to his hometown of Jelgava and closed out the “Milžu cīņas” show with a TKO victory, which was meant to cap off his career.

But true warriors find it hard to stay away from the cage. Just this February, Skujiņš accepted a short-notice fight against Karate Combat world champion Edgars “Bearslayer” Skrīvers at Arena Riga, showing that his competitive fire still burns. Now, the veteran champion has been lured back once more for a grudge match with Vesnenok on his own fight show.

But whoever wins or loses is best to be seen live. So don’t forget:
