There is no nice way to present Arturs Skabarnieks: he’s got eleven professional fights, eleven wins, and eleven first-round finishes; six by strikes, five by submission. When TVNET sat him down for a long interview last October, the outlet noted that nobody has lasted a single round with him.
His submissions are not one trick on repeat: a heel hook on Janis Eisaks and a triangle on Martins Burkovskis inside the same evening at Freon’s Berserk Winter Cup in February 2024, an armbar on Madars Trivols, rear-naked chokes on Patryk Ksiazek and Olegs Tarasenko… Five finishes from four separate positions, at 120 kg, is an unusual toolkit anywhere, let alone in the Baltic heavyweight pool!
His amateur ceiling is the only notable mention: at the 2022 GAMMA European Championships in Tbilisi he stopped defending European champion David Závoda in the semi-final, then lost the final to Poland’s world champion Iwo Baraniewski. He got silver, and the only man to beat him was the best man in the building…
Since then the matchmaking has kept reaching upward—and slipping. KOK announced him last summer against Gilbert “The Hurricane” Yvel, the PRIDE and UFC veteran with thirty-plus knockouts; the bout fell apart, and Skabarnieks stopped Lasha Roinishvili in the first round instead. In February he was signed to meet Jovan Leka at BRAVE CF 104 in Belgrade and withdrew. A week later, MFC champion Shota Betlemidze pulled out of their KOK 128 booking, Nicolai Garbuz took it on days’ notice, and the evening ended the way they all end.
Then came the seventeen seconds at “BAZARA 0 Fight Club III”: Quentin “Ruskov” Domingos dislocated his shoulder before the fight was half a minute old. It was ruled a “No Contest” under a Latvian provision covering bouts ending inside ninety seconds. Skabarnieks argued the standard had to apply symmetrically, telling sportacentrs.com that, had the injury been his, he would have taken the loss. The Latvian MMA Federation agreed and overturned the result to a win, on the finding that the injury came from his strike.
Luis Henrique “Frankenstein” da Silva has the same horsepower: twenty wins, twelve losses, eighteen knockouts. The UFC’s own statistical record notes that across six Octagon appearances he landed 237 of 393 significant strikes for 60% accuracy.
Da Silva entered the UFC undefeated at 10–0 and stopped Jonathan Wilson on debut at UFC 199, then submitted Joachim Christensen for a Performance of the Night bonus. At KSW 75 in October of 2022 he threw a front kick twenty-eight seconds into the second round and folded Tomasz Narkun, the KSW light heavyweight champion and the only fighter ever to beat Mamed Khalidov twice. It is, notably, the best single win anyone on this card owns!
