UFC Vegas 103 is a high-risk, high-reward card. It’s criminal that the co-main event is Cody Brundage against Julian Marquez, given how good some of the prelims are, but the UFC could be hoping for a back-and-forth brawl with someone getting a big finish. At least the main event should be a high level bout, with flyweights Manel Kape and Asu Almabayev doing battle.
This is one of those UFC cards where the prelims could outperform the main card. It’s stacked with hungry up-and-comers, some on great winning streaks, looking to join the next level of UFC fighters. Chepe Mariscal and Ricardo Ramos should be on the main card. The same can be said for Charles Johnson versus Ramazonbek Temirov.
As for the main card, the potential for war is high. With several expensive favorites, there could be some interesting underdog spots to consider. Let’s dive into the main card for UFC Vegas 103.
Manel Kape vs. Asu Almabayev
The striking in this one should favour Manel Kape. He’s got the volume and versatility, but Almabayev has solid defense. In some ways, especially defensively, the striking is close. The difference in this one will be the takedowns. Almabayev averages 5.08 takedowns per 15 minutes, and Kape has been known to get taken down, despite his solid 77% takedown defense.
While the value has been bet down, Almabayev to Win at 2.80 is a solid underdog shot. He has growing UFC experience, solid defense on the feet, and will fight for your money. With limited value on Kape, the fight to go to a decision also makes sense here.
Cody Brundage vs. Julian Marquez
This fight as the co-main is still shocking, but the UFC is hoping for fireworks. Cody Brundage as an underdog here doesn’t make too much sense. While he can be a disappointing fighter in many ways, Julian Marquez is on his last fight of his UFC contract and seems to have one foot out the door. Both guys can be finished here, but you’re unsure which version you will get.
Brundage to Win at 2.00 makes sense here with the option to buy out on Marquez live. If he’s competitive in the first round, this fight could go either way after the second round. Both guys will be relatively tired and will throw big punches. To understand just how little faith the sportsbook has in Brundage, Marquez has been finished in three straight and hasn’t won since 2021 against Sam Alvey. They’ve been to a decision three times combined in their careers, so Fight Doesn’t go the Distance at 1.21 is a safe parlay piece if that’s your cup of tea.
Nasrat Haqparast vs. Esteban Ribovics
This fight will be fireworks. Esteban Ribovics is flying high after his three-fight win streak but Nasrat Haqparast is his toughest fight yet. Haqparast looks undervalued in this spot. Despite both fighters being the same age, Haqparast is 9-4 in the UFC while Ribovics is 14-1 overall.
Ribovics is a good striker and both guys throw with volume, but Haqparast has a reach advantage and the better defense. Given Ribovics’ recent success and great fights, he’s overvalued in the market. He can win, but Haqparast to Win at 3.20 seems too good to pass up. Even if he loses, he’s going to fight for every dollar.
Hayder Amil vs. William Gomis
This fight will be fun, but William Gomis’ technical striking could be the difference maker. Hayder Amil pushes forward and will bring the pressure, but that plays into Gomis’ stick and move style. He won’t throw with volume, but he throws with intent. He won’t have issues landing while avoiding the takedowns.
Gomis’ 71% striking defense is the most impressive. He’ll have a three-inch reach advantage and has proven wins over fighters like Joanderson Brito and Yanis Ghemmouri. Gomis is also the younger fighter with more MMA experience. Dodging a surprise finish or a wrestling battle, all signs point to Gomis winning this one.
Danny Barlow vs. Sam Patterson
This fight has all the makings of a UFC showcase fight, pitting budding star Danny Barlow against submission specialist Sam Patterson. While there is a long shot chance that Patterson finds ways to get this fight to the ground and maybe find a submission, Barlow’s style is perfect for one thing, chaos.
The first round is going to be telling. If you’re on the Barlow side, a first round finish is in the cards. What’s interesting about Patterson is he has 100% takedown accuracy, with one takedown in each of his last two fights and submission wins in both. He’s dangerous on the ground. On the flip side, Barlow has 100% takedown defense in his short UFC career and landed a combined 142 significant strikes in his last two fights. Danny Barlow is a solid parlay piece, but with Patterson only losing via strikes in the first round, and his submission game being its best early in the fight, Fight to End in Round 1 at 2.40 is a solid prop to consider.
As for the prelims, Chepe Mariscal and Mario Pinto should roll. They have solid momentum and great matchups. The lines prove that. Getting creative with those two winning are solid options for UFC Vegas 103. Montana de La Rosa deserves your attention at 2.14 with her experience and Luana Carolina changing weight classes. Charles Johnson has a ridiculous size difference and incredible footwork. The line’s moving, but 1.83 is a good price for the rising flyweight contender.
Coming off an amazing UFC Seattle card, fans hope UFC Vegas 103 will continue that trend. While the main card may not be as exciting, there is potential for some old school brawls. To top it all off, the flyweight dark horse title eliminator between Kape and Almabayev should make everyone happy.
